Sarah-Quita Offringa claims 17th consecutive freestyle title

FUERTEVENTURA Aruba’s Sarah-Quita Offringa produced a remarkable comeback to retain her freestyle windsurfing world title for the 17th consecutive year.

Several days earlier, Offringa was defeated by Maaike Huvermann in the single elimination, a result that suddenly made Huvermann the favorite to win the world championship.

Offringa, however, returned stronger in the double elimination. In an impressive display of determination and quality, the Aruban defeated Huvermann twice in succession to regain the lead and secure another world title.

The victory extends Offringa’s extraordinary dominance in freestyle windsurfing and once again places Aruba on the highest stage of the sport.
