BOSTON – Aruban catcher Chadwick Tromp has been recalled by the Baltimore Orioles after starting catcher Adley Rutschman was placed on the 10-day injured list for the third time this season.
Rutschman is sidelined with inflammation in his left wrist, leaving Baltimore without its All-Star catcher ahead of a key series against the Boston Red Sox.
To fill the vacancy, the Orioles selected Tromp's contract and added him to the active 26-man roster. The 31-year-old previously spent time with Baltimore from June 22 to July 3, appearing in one game in which he went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Baltimore continues to carry three catchers, as top prospect Samuel Basallo is also dealing with right shoulder discomfort but has avoided the injured list for now.
For Tromp, the promotion provides another opportunity to contribute at the major league level while the Orioles look to extend their strong run during an important stretch of the season.
