ORANJESTAD – A Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard helicopter carried out a medical evacuation Monday afternoon after a 40-year-old woman aboard a cruise ship suffered a medical emergency while sailing north of Aruba.
According to the Coast Guard, its Maritime Operations Center received the emergency call and immediately dispatched a helicopter to the vessel. The woman required urgent medical assistance and transportation to a hospital.
After being airlifted from the cruise ship, she was flown to Queen Beatrix International Airport, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to the hospital for further medical treatment.
The cruise ship was sailing within the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard's area of responsibility north of Aruba at the time of the evacuation.
