ORANJESTAD – Finance, Economic Affairs and Primary Sector Minister Geoffrey Wever, accompanied by Finance Department Director Derrick Werleman, has officially submitted Aruba's 2025 Annual Accounts to the General Audit Chamber (Algemene Rekenkamer).
According to the minister, the submission marks an important milestone in strengthening transparency, accountability and financial discipline within the public sector. It is also the first time Aruba has submitted its annual accounts this early.
For many years, Aruba faced significant delays in preparing and submitting its annual financial statements. In 2025, under Wever's leadership and with the support of the Department of Finance and the Central Audit Department, the government completed and submitted the overdue annual accounts for 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. With the submission of the 2025 accounts, the historical backlog has now been fully eliminated.
The government says this means the preparation of annual accounts has become a regular part of Aruba's financial management, allowing public revenues and expenditures to be monitored, evaluated and justified in a timely and transparent manner.
The General Audit Chamber will now review whether the 2025 accounts comply with legal and budgetary requirements and whether public funds were spent effectively, efficiently and lawfully. The institution will publish its findings and recommendations in a formal report.
Minister Wever described the submission as an important achievement for Aruba's public finances.
"Step by step, through discipline and cooperation, we have eliminated the backlog and restored the normal financial accountability process. Aruba deserves a financial administration that is complete, transparent and reliable. This is not only a legal obligation, but also a fundamental requirement for good governance and public confidence," Wever said.
The minister also thanked the Department of Finance, the Central Audit Department and the General Audit Chamber for their contributions to strengthening Aruba's financial oversight.
