ORANJESTAD – An oncologist recently suggested a father to relocate from his current residence in Parkietenbos, if he wants to live longer. What makes this area unlivable is the large landfill. The family issued a public statement, informing of the doctor’s advice, using this as a clear example of how serious the living conditions are in that neighborhood. The father mentioned in the press statement, was diagnosed with cancer years ago. It is most likely that he contracted the cancer from the effects of the landfill, although that was not mentioned in the statement.

The family assures that this latest docter comment is another proof that supports the Pan American World Organization’s (PAHO) concern that this landfill is a public health hazard. Other inhabitants of the area have long protested against the effects and handling of the landfill. The current government has promised a solution by years end, but has not confirmed how exactly it plans to do so.
